while the rest of us do our daily workouts, Addair Kentucky wallows in bins of food
As you know, we’ve signed up to do a Spartan Race in August and so I’m on week 2 of my training. Some days I do the Spartan-recommended Work Out of the Day, but mostly I’m dancing. In classes yes, but also in the streets. I was inspired by that delightful youtube video featuring the dance walk guru. A video of my own for the curious:
dance walking when Addair Kentucky is napping and I have to stay home
When Mister little baby is awake he comes along and I get to add weight lifting to my day’s fitness check off. He likes dance walking too. By the end of it, he’s usually rocked (or hip hopped) to sleep.
I’d also like to try getting together a playground jump rope crew. Good fun, good cardio. Our street turns into a dead end and would be perfect.
Perhaps a schedule of ballet, dance walking, and skipping rope isn’t what most Spartan racers do, though I can’t see why the ever not.
Meanwhile, my team members are out being very Spartanesque. Here’s a few excerpts from a facebook thread:
Levon Walker: man, I almost did like 50 burpees today. Not like 49, I mean almost did burpees
Frankie Campbell: Well, we have two flights of stairs per floor, four floors, eight flights total. I started from the bottom and jogged to the top, on step at a time, jogged back down, jogged back up two steps at a time, jogged back down two steps at a time, then went back up two floors one step at a time. I did that twice today. Then rode 5 miles on my bicycle, did three sets of 10 burpees, and two sets of 20 crunches with my feet elevated… I”m getting ready boys (and girls) !!
Frankie Campbell: You think if I play, “Eye of the Tiger” on my iPod it will be easier tomorrow?
Dustin Addair: I just run every were I go. In the office, during lunch, at the house. Crawling under every couch or table i see. I figure if I never stop running, it wont be that hard come race day. just another day.
Ryan Walker: If you fail at an obstacle, you do burpies. We all must practice daily on our spear throws. Carry your spear always, you never know when you’ll have time for a practice session
Ashley Addair: i hold spear throwing records in the state of montana
Rebekah Campbell: Levon you’re more streamline now without the mustache…..good move!!!
Ryan Walker: Levon, I agree with Rebecca. The mustache would just fill w mud and slow u down.
Frankie, Ive had my spear ever since I was little. I carry it w me always. Ok actually I was terrible at the spear throw. Unfortunately the spear throw was immediately followed by the horizontal wall climb in my first race. That meant I did 60 burpees almost consecutively.
Levon Walker: Yeah Montana spear throwers rely too much on the wind. I throw spears in the woods.
Dustin Addair: im fluent in numb-chucking but im sure crossing over to spear wont be an issue for me what so ever. We will see though.

Aren’t they great?
I’m oh so grateful for my funny little team and for the incentive to make exercise a priority. The big, scary Spartan hoopla makes for a pretty good excuse to frolic about.
